Although both my parents are from eastern North Carolina, they started their own careers in education in South Boston, Virginia, where I grew up.  Upon high school graduation, I moved to Greenville to study at East Carolina University.  I graduated in 1990 with a degree in Geography and completed a double major in French in 1991.  I have spent my entire 30-year career teaching French at Washington High School.

My father learned to speak Chinese while in the Air Force, so growing up with a bilingual parent made me very interested in languages. I studied French in high school and college and fell in love with the language.  I also fell in love with teaching.  I enjoy taking my students on a journey in which they learn to converse in French, understand French, make presentations in French and compare their way of life with lifestyles in French-speaking places around the world.  I have organized ten trips to Europe for WHS students.  I love serving as the public address announcer for all the Pam Pack home football games and I enjoy being the faculty advisor for Washington High School’s Stunt Night, which raises thousands of dollars annually for scholarships.
