Protecting our Students Act

The Center for Safer Schools has created a comprehensive course guide in alignment with N.C. General Statute 115C-105.57(2a). The Protecting Our Students Act is referenced in Session Law 2023-128/House Bill 142. This essential programming has been created by the North Carolina Center for Safer Schools, aimed at equipping K-12 school employees with vital information regarding inappropriate behavior and adult sexual misconduct in school environments.

We are sharing these materials with you in part because of N.C. General Statute 115C-105.57(2a). This required the videos to be developed and to be shown to students in grades six through twelve and the videos should be viewed by all public-school students.

About Us

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our students, parents and families as well as all the tremendous employees of Beaufort County Schools to the 2026–2027 school year.  We want to be a school system of continuous improvement. We endeavor to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all. We want and need our parents, families and the community at large to be our partners for the success of all our students.

It is my goal that all students that attend Beaufort County Schools are afforded every opportunity for success. Success can take many forms. It may be reflected in students demonstrating positive character traits that inspire others, expanding their social circles to welcome new friendships, or offering help to someone in need—not for recognition, but simply because it is the right thing to do.  Success is also expressed through creativity, whether in music, band, art, dance, or student performances across a variety of disciplines. It is evident in leadership through roles such as House Ambassadors, club and student government officers, and participation in our Army and Air Force JROTC programs. Our student-athletes demonstrate success through their unwavering dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of practice. Their achievements are not defined solely by victories, but by the commitment, discipline, and resilience they develop while pursuing excellence across a wide range of athletic endeavors.  Our student-scholars demonstrate success through their academic achievements in the classroom that not only reflect their individual efforts, but also highlight the collaborative effort between staff, students, and parents to foster a desire to strive for excellence.

We want our schools, students and parents to dream big and never let geography or complacency limit what our students can achieve. Please take good care of yourselves and good care of one another as we greet the new school year with excitement, optimism and endless possibilities.

Mr. Mark Doane, Superintendent
