Mrs. Brett O'Brien

My name is Brett O'Brien and I will be teaching Kindergarten and First grade for the 2023-2024 school year, in one of our EC classrooms.

I was born and raised in Washington, NC. I graduated in Child Development and Family Relations, with a Birth through Kindergarten Teaching License in 1999 and with a Master's Degree in Special Education in 2007. I became a National Board Certified teacher in 2010 and I currently attend Liberty University.

After getting married in 1998, I taught Pre-K in Cumberland County for 2 years, before moving to Greenville where I taught in the sweetest inclusive classrooms for toddlers and preschoolers, for Easter Seals UCP/Pitt County for 5 years. I was an Inclusion specialist for one year with Easter Seals UCP, working throughout Pitt County, offering strategies to include children with special needs in their general education preschools. I taught at Eppes Middle School in a class for children with autism for one year. I returned to BCS and have taught at Chocowinity Primary for 4 years and John Cotton Tayloe for 9 years. This will be my second year at Eastern Elementary School.

My husband has a carpet cleaning business and we have 4 children: a 23-year-old son who works as a technology specialist for Discover and is engaged to be married in October 2023, a 21-year-old daughter who attends UNC-Chapel Hill, an 18-year-old who is a first-year student at ECU, and a 10-year-old who will be at John Small School.

We have 3 dogs: Cinder, Ginger, and Ember, who all think they rule the house!  My children and I have enjoyed our years with Beaufort County Schools; I feel that BCS has helped my children to be successful and I want to help all our EES students to reach their highest potential!  🙂
