Bachelor of Music (Voice) Master of Music (Voice and Pedagogy)
Ms. Peggy Overton Vaughan
Music has been a huge part of my life since childhood. My grandmother was a professional singer, and my mother was a professional organist. Piano lessons began for me when I was five, and I became serious about singing when I was in the 7th Grade. For much of my adult life, I have been a professional classical singer, and until very recently, was singing several concerts a year.
I have taught Pre-K through College students, and truly enjoy every age level! I believe I am teaching where I belong now, in a K-8 school. Seeing my students excited about learning the mechanics of music is so exciting!
I grew up in Hampton, Virginia, and enjoyed crabbing, fishing, and sailing in the Hampton Roads and Chesapeake Bay. After living in Greenville for 25 years, I moved to Washington two years ago to be closer to the water again. It is wonderful to walk downtown and smell the water, and boat with friends.
I have two daughters. Jessica lives in New York, and is a dresser for the Broadway show, Wicked. Caroline lives in Greensboro, having returned to school to become a Speech Pathologist. I am extremely proud of my daughters! My dogs are very small poodles, Poppy Lou and Daisy Lin, and are great company for me.
I am looking forward to this school year! Let's make music together!
