Course Registration

  • Each Spring, the school counselors meet with students to discuss their course selections for the upcoming academic year. Students register for classes using Powerschool and are walked through the process by the school counselors.

In addition to registering for classes, the  SHS Program of Study  is shared with students (they bookmark this on their Chromebooks for easy access). This provides a guide for classes based on each grade level.

For Rising Freshmen: SHS school counselors and the career development coordinator visit both SW Snowden and Chocowinity Middle Schools to introduce themselves to rising 9th grade students, talk about 9th grade classes and walk students through the registration process. A Rising Seahawk Information Night for students and parents is also held at SHS. More information about graduation requirements, pathways, CTE programs, Career and College Promise, and core subjects is shared.

For Current SHS Students: School counselors visit all spring English classes to have students register for courses using Powerschool.  All students who are not registered for an English class in the spring semester are called to the Media Center on a certain day during a certain period (for example, March 10, sophomores during 2nd block) to register. All students receive the same presentation that includes the SHS Program of Study. Students have one month of access to their course requests to make any changes if they wish to do so. They can log in from home and make changes with parents/guardians if necessary. Once student access to PowerScheduler is turned off, students can still make changes, they just have to contact their school counselor to do so.
