Welcome to the SHS School Counseling website! My name is Dr. Jennifer Burruss and I am excited to serve as a School Counselor at SHS!

I earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from East Carolina University, a master's degree in counselor education from ECU, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from The George Washington University.  I am originally from Beaufort County, and after 18 years of living in Virginia, I am happy to be back home. During that time, I have held various positions in the student services field. I've worked at the elementary, middle, high, community college, and university levels. Additionally, I taught graduate level courses for the Counselor Education Program at Virginia Commonwealth University. I live in Washington with my husband, two children, and two dogs. 

There is nothing more motivating than to see students get excited about graduating and moving on to the next phase in life. I consider it an honor to play a role in that process here at SHS.
