Degrees and Certifications:

Jesse Register

The 2024-2025 school year will mark my 20th year of teaching here in North Carolina.  I graduated form NCSU, GO PACK, in 1992 with a degree in Forest Management and a minor in Environmental Science.  I worked for 13 years in the timber industry as a procuremnt forester.  But I always felt lead to something different.  It took a while but I finally figured out I was meant to be a teacher.  So I went the lateral entry route and earned my teaching license.  I spent my first 8 years at Hallsboro Middle school (Columbus County) teaching 8th graders science.  I helped coach volleyball, football and coached some rec league baseball.  But then I found the one sport I loved coaching which is softball.  I coached our girls the last 4 years I was at HMS and loved every second of it.  But it was a little frustrating to only have them for 2 years.  So I started the search that lead me and Mrs. Register to Pinecrest High School in Moore county.  We litteraly sold the farm and moved to West End, NC.  I took over the program in the fall of 2013.  It was a big change going from a middle school with around 250 students to a high school with 2400 students.  I taught Health and PE while coaching.  But after 4 years I realized I really missed teaching science.  So I stepped away from coaching and in the fall of 2017 went back into the sceince classroom teaching Earth and Environmental Science.  Mrs. Register and I always felt we would move back to eastern NC but we were not sure where.  We started doing a little looking and over time found ourselve drawn to Beaufort county.  We interviewed at PS Jones, they offered and here we are.

When we are away from school it is all about hunting and fishing.  My 78 year old mom is my #1 deer hunting buddy.  Mrs. Register is getting into duck hunting more especiall now that we have Abbiegale(1 1/2 year old yellow lab).  The kids will hear plenty about her.  I also love to chase turkeys in the spring.  When not hunting we enjoy fishing.  Coming from the Sandhills, we mostly fished for crappie and bass in piedmont lakes so we are looking forward to learning to catch some trout and drum.

Excited to start year 20 here at PSJ!
